Logic of class and social distinction
Main Article Content
Abstract
Two kinds of conditions, both external and internal, impact the way sociological theories are constructed. The work of Edmond Goblot (1858-1935) can be interpreted from this perspective. This French philosopher is known for his book La barrière et le niveau (1925), which has become a standard reference for the sociology of social classes. This theory was based on the bourgeois milieu in which Goblot
lived, but it is also internally shaped by a logic of relations, enabling one to read the book as an exercise in logic.
