Index of social inclusion in the Valparaíso Region, Chile
Main Article Content
Abstract
Nowadays, social inclusion is an unavoidable object of study and issue on the Latin American political agenda. This article shows the results of the regional social inclusion index (IRIS), which analyzes the conditions
of inclusion of people and territories in the Valparaíso Region. Inclusion emerges as a complex process since communes show significant gaps between social dimensions, while medium-sized communes and metropolitan areas perform better in dimensions such as employment and education. Lastly, the IRIS is a useful tool for monitoring social policies, but a comprehensive measurement will require new indicators in sensitive areas for inclusion.
