The development of so-called Pro-Life Activism in Argentina, 1980-2014
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Catholic hierarchy and certain evangelical churches have emerged as strong opponents of sexual and reproductive rights in Latin America. Moreover, various ngos calling themselves Pro-Life have begun to play a key role in this conservative activism, operating in the arena of civil society in ways that transcend religion. This article describes the dynamic configurationof these organizations in Argentina. Through the analysis of 140 ngos, it proposes an analytical distinction of the three stages theyhave undergone, considering the changes in their advocacy strategies and in their public identities.
