Will we face this disaster together? The joint reconstruction of a broken Mexico

Abstract

This article presents the practical and theoretical results of the research project entitled México: las regiones sociales en el siglo XXI (Pro-Regiones), which stems from a sociological intervention promoted by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. It was launched in 2005 and seeks to find instruments for improving the quality of life of Mexicans in the context of severe social disruptions (exclusion, violence, social inequality) largely brought about by the abrupt meeting of the demands of the global economy. It evaluates the strategic functions universities can perform to address this dynamic of coupling, disorder and reconstruction.
