Abstract

The Peruvian internal armed conflict (1980-2000) led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. In 2004, the Peruvian State created the National Register for Displaced Persons, an official list of persons recognized as such, which is still operating. Based on interviews and a documentary review, this article reports on the characteristics of this register with two objectives: 1) to determine its limitations within the context of the difficulties of the Peruvian State in attending the displaced population, and 2) to show its potential as a source for further research.
