Elites and strategies to capture the media in Central America
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article shows that elites, when they feel threatened, have four types of strategies to capture the media: economic, political, violent and property strategies. The selection of these strategies might enable elites to censor information or influence on what is reported. Elite members were interviewed in Costa Rica and El Salvador in the context of the 2014 presidential elections, which put at risk the elites’ privileged access to the government.
